ACC Chairman Lays Foundation Stone of New Rangpur Office

Rangpur: Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen, today laid the foundation stone for the ACC's new seven-storey integrated district and divisional office building in the Alamnagar area of the city. The ceremony, marked by the unveiling of a plaque, was followed by the inauguration of the construction work, which Dr. Momen commenced by pouring cement concrete into the basement as the chief guest.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was presided over by Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal, who also delivered a welcome speech. ACC Director General (Prevention) Md. Akhtar Hossain addressed the gathering as a special guest. Other notable attendees included Rangpur Divisional Director of ACC Mohammad Nurul Huda, the Deputy Director for the integrated Rangpur district office Md. Shaon Mia, government officials, and members of the District Corruption Prevention Committee.

The construction of the new building is being carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD), the government's construction agency, through a contracting company, Messer's MK Traders and Syed Sajjad Ali (JV), at a cost of Taka 19.13 crore. On the occasion, Dr. Momen highlighted that the inauguration of the ACC's Rangpur district and divisional office is set to expand its activities in the region and enhance the fight against corruption.

Dr. Momen emphasized that eradicating corruption requires more than just punishment. "Mutual sincerity and good relations between service providers and service recipients can reduce corruption to a large extent," he stated. The ACC, he noted, is focused on establishing connections between these groups to combat corruption effectively.

In response to questions from journalists, Dr. Momen affirmed the anti-corruption stance of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, emphasizing that no concessions would be made for corruption within the advisory council. He assured that if allegations are specific, appropriate action will be taken in accordance with ACC's existing laws.

Highlighting the vital role of journalists in combating corruption, Dr. Momen encouraged them to act as whistleblowers by exposing corrupt practices. "The objective news disseminated by media workers can eradicate corruption from society," he added, urging all stakeholders to actively participate in preventing corruption and promoting accountability.
