Dhaka: Education Adviser Prof Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar emphasized the need for developing a science-based and modern technology-driven education system in the country. He made this call during a seminar titled ‘Past, Present and Future of Madrasah Education in Bangladesh’ held at the International Mother Language Institute (IMLI), where he served as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Abrar highlighted the importance of utilizing public resources efficiently, as all educational institutions in the country operate on public funding. He suggested engaging in discussions with stakeholders to prioritize sectors where the education ministry should allocate resources. Dr Abrar also emphasized revamping madrasah education to cater to the needs of students, teachers, and administrators.
Dr Abrar recalled the July-August mass uprising, noting it provided a new opportunity for citizens to contribute to nation-building with responsibility and compassion. He paid tribute to those martyred in various democratic movements, including the 2024 mass uprising, and acknowledged the contributions of madrasah students in these movements since the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.
He stressed the importance of creating an environment that allows youths to develop their talents and abilities freely. The seminar was presided over by Dr K M Kabirul Islam, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division, with Siddique Zobair, Senior Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division, attending as a special guest. Other attendees included University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh Professor Dr Salimullah Khan, Dhaka University Professor Dr ABM Siddiqur Rahman Nizami, and Director (education) of Madrasa Darur Rashad Maulana Mohammad Liaqat Ali.
