Bangladesh Aims to Regain Batting Form in Second Test Against West Indies

Sylhet:Bangladesh's head coach Phil Simmons emphasized the need for his team to rediscover their batting form as they prepare for the second and final Test match against the West Indies, starting tomorrow at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bangladesh suffered an eight-wicket defeat in the first Test in Dhaka, continuing a series of poor batting performances since their notable Test victory over Australia in Darwin. Simmons acknowledged the team's struggles to maintain their batting standards in the four matches since that win. However, he noted that the players have been working with the same intensity and determination.

Simmons expressed optimism about the playing surface in Sylhet, likening it to the favorable conditions encountered during Bangladesh's previous home series against Pakistan. He also addressed the potential inclusion of Amite Hasan, a prolific batter in domestic cricket who recently joined the squad as a replacement. Although Hasan's inclusion in the playing XI appears unlikely, the team management will finalize the lineup after practice.

Despite recent subpar performances, Simmons defended Bangladesh's spin attack, highlighting its role as one of the team's strengths, and referred to past successes where spinners have contributed significantly to victories. He also stressed the need for improved fielding after several dropped catches in the opening Test.

Simmons dismissed injury concerns within the current squad and confirmed that wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das followed his usual pre-match routine, despite not participating in the full practice session. As Bangladesh approaches the must-win match, Simmons hinted at having a surprise strategy for the West Indies, keeping details under wraps for the time being.
