Rajshahi:Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid announced that there is no shortage of fertilizer in Bangladesh, with current stocks 35% higher than at the same time last year, eliminating concerns about future shortages.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Rashid addressed these issues at a stakeholder consultation meeting held at the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner's conference room. He highlighted the government's efforts to prevent an artificial fertilizer shortage, particularly in border areas, where smuggling is a concern due to higher fertilizer prices in neighboring countries.
During the meeting, discussions included topics such as fertilizer, seeds, irrigation, fisheries, livestock, and overall agricultural production management in the Rajshahi Division's eight districts. The minister called for strict measures by law enforcement to prevent fertilizer smuggling and warned dealers against failing to lift their allocated fertilizer on time.
The minister instructed dealers to keep their shops open longer during the current season and emphasized the importance of balanced fertilizer use to improve agricultural production and soil health. He urged agriculture officers to educate farmers on proper fertilizer application and directed fisheries officers to guide fish farmers on using fertilizers in aquaculture.
Minister Rashid reiterated the government's commitment to supporting agriculture, aiming to enhance agricultural production and ensure adequate fertilizer supply based on farmers' needs. The meeting was attended by several officials, including Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner-in-Charge Md Rezaul Alam Sarker, and participating virtually were deputy commissioners from other districts within the division.
