Dhaka:The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against businessman Md. Salahuddin Ripon, accusing him of acquiring and possessing assets valued at approximately Taka 355.3 million, which are inconsistent with his known sources of income.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md. Aktarul Islam, Deputy Director of the Public Relations Division at the ACC, confirmed the case filing. The ACC's investigation uncovered that Salahuddin Ripon's assets amount to Taka 398.39 million, excluding liabilities, while his legitimate income from 2007-2008 to 2020-2021 was only Taka 85.46 million. His total expenditure during this period was Taka 42.37 million, leaving him with legitimate savings of Taka 43.09 million.
The ACC calculated that the assets acquired beyond his legitimate savings totaled Taka 355.31 million, which is not supported by his known income sources. Although Salahuddin Ripon claimed in his asset declaration that his immovable assets were acquired through business income, this assertion could not be verified. His legitimate income during the reported period, including Taka 57.42 million from business, was insufficient to justify the acquisition of immovable assets worth Taka 419.22 million.
The ACC alleges that Salahuddin Ripon attempted to legitimize assets obtained through corrupt means by providing false information in his asset declaration, claiming they were purchased with business income. Consequently, charges have been filed against Salahuddin Ripon under sections 27(1) and 26(2) of the ACC Act-04.
