Dhaka:The 'Information fair' will be organized at different universities across the country to raise public awareness about the Right to Information (RTI) and encourage its practice, Chief Information Commissioner Professor Dr. Nahreen Islam Khan said today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the university-based information fair aims to help develop a positive attitude towards the Right to Information among the younger generation and encourage their active participation in establishing transparency and accountability.
The Chief Information Commissioner made these remarks during an exchange of views meeting held at the conference room of the Information Commission Bangladesh in Dhaka. The meeting discussed in detail the plans, scope, and implementation strategies for organizing information fairs at the universities.
The discussions also covered possible cooperation and participation of NGOs, along with various proposals, to raise public awareness about the Right to Information Act, 2009. The fairs will feature stalls set up by different organizations on the Right to Information, as well as publications, posters, leaflets, and booklets on the subject. Video presentations, short dramas, and documentaries will also be screened, as added by Prof. Nahreen Islam.
Practical assistance will be provided to students on how to apply for information and fill out application forms. The initiative also aims to make the practice of the Right to Information easier and more effective by giving students practical knowledge about the procedures for filing appeals and complaints.
The Chief Information Commissioner expressed hope that this initiative would play an important role in building an informed, aware, and responsible citizenry. Information Commissioners SAM Mahfuzur Rahman and Khan Mohammad Abul Hossain, along with Commission Secretary Md. Shah Alam, were present at the meeting.
