China Commits to Strengthening Ties with Bangladesh Through Enhanced Cooperation

Dhaka:China has pledged to deepen its longstanding relationship with Bangladesh by enhancing political engagement, expanding economic cooperation, and increasing people-to-people exchanges. This commitment was emphasized as a foundation for shared prosperity and development between the two nations.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Liu Haixing, minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made these remarks at a high-level seminar held at InterContinental Dhaka. The seminar, titled "Where History Illuminates the Future China-Bangladesh 'Political Parties Plus' Roundtable and Inauguration Ceremony of Bangladesh-China Centre for Party and State Governance Studies," was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka.

Liu Haixing highlighted the importance of transforming the traditional friendship between the two countries into a driving force for future progress. The seminar saw participation from various dignitaries, including BNP Acting Secretary General Rahul Kabir Rizvi, Prime Minister's Adviser Nazrul Islam Khan, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam. Looking ahead, Liu mentioned projects like the Mongla Port Industrial Park and the Teesta River restoration initiative as opportunities for further collaboration. He also outlined China's economic goals, including plans to double its per capita GDP and expand its middle-income population.

On political cooperation, Liu emphasized the CPC's interest in strengthening exchanges with Bangladesh's political parties and other stakeholders. He advocated for broadening bilateral engagement beyond government-to-government cooperation to include various sectors of society.
