Dhaka:The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) special metropolitan magistrate courts successfully disposed of 11,753 criminal and traffic cases during the month of October.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, DMP Law Officer Mohammad Ataul Haque reported that 12,670 individuals were arrested in connection with 6,714 criminal cases during the same period, with 8,235 of them being incarcerated.
Authorities collected fines totaling Tk 2,889,650 and auctioned or confiscated assets valued at Tk 80,234. In an effort to maintain law and order, 41 special joint operations were conducted by magistrates and DMP police.
Under the Road Transport Act, 2018, 1,297 cases were filed for traffic law violations. Out of a total of 5,039 traffic cases, fines amounting to Tk 701,800 were collected during October.
The DMP noted that the swift judicial proceedings by Special Metropolitan Magistrates are enhancing public trust in the judiciary and law enforcement agencies while acting as a deterrent against crime.
