Barishal City Corporation Plans Development of 16 Futsal Fields

Barishal:Barishal City Corporation (BCC) has announced a significant initiative to develop 16 futsal fields throughout the city. This effort aims to promote sports and provide children and young people with opportunities for physical activities.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the initiative is part of the government's playground development project. BCC has finalized a list of 16 locations and submitted a Detailed Project Proposal (DPP) to the Ministry of Local Government for approval. The project is estimated to cost Taka 50 crore.

The development of these facilities aligns with the government's priority for sports development and the Ministry of Youth and Sports' directives to establish futsal fields in city corporation areas nationwide. The proposed fields will include surface levelling, natural grass, drainage systems, LED floodlights, modern washrooms, and galleries, allowing for both daytime and nighttime sports activities.

Selected locations for the fields include the BSCIC field in Kawnia, Paresh Sagar field in Alekanda, Kawnia Housing field, and the field adjacent to Alamgir Student Hostel. Barishal has faced a shortage of playgrounds, with many existing fields in disrepair, limiting opportunities for outdoor games.

Parents and sports enthusiasts have welcomed the project, hoping it will revitalize the city's sporting environment. Young player Rakib Hasan noted the deterioration of popular venues like Paresh Sagar field and the BM School field. He expressed optimism that proper maintenance would restore their vitality.

BCC Property Department Officer Mohammad Shakil Ahmed stated that the development is part of the Prime Minister's 180-day priority programme. The fields will feature modern amenities, ensuring a suitable environment for sports activities.

District Sports Officer Saidul Islam emphasized the importance of playgrounds in nurturing talented athletes. He highlighted that several national team members have emerged from Barishal through grassroots competitions.

BCC Administrator Advocate Bilkis Akter Jahan Shirin stressed the government's focus on sports development and the importance of playgrounds in keeping children away from negative influences. She mentioned plans for additional playgrounds, including a special facility for underprivileged children and those with disabilities.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque, attending a local football tournament, reiterated the government's commitment to expanding sports opportunities across the country, with plans for playgrounds in every union and ongoing stadium projects in upazilas.
