Dhaka:The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) has set an ambitious goal to attract an additional $5 billion in US investments to Bangladesh over the next four and a half to five years. The upcoming 30th US Trade Show, scheduled for November 5-7 in Dhaka, is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving this target.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, AmCham President Syed Mohammad Kamal announced at a press conference that while the entire $5 billion may not materialize, the trade show will significantly contribute to reaching the investment goal. Bangladesh has received approximately $5 billion in US investment over the past 15 years, and AmCham has discussed with the government the potential to attract the same amount in the coming years.
Kamal highlighted that energy security is crucial for attracting US investors, and AmCham is collaborating with the government to address this issue. An energy roadmap from the government is anticipated soon. A seminar focusing on the energy sector will be conducted during the trade show to further these efforts.
AmCham is focusing on sectors where US technology and innovation can significantly benefit Bangladesh, aiming for value addition rather than indiscriminate investment. The event will feature participation from American chambers of commerce globally and investors from companies new to Bangladesh, with hopes to attract 10 to 12 new companies to the country.
The trade show will see participation from 36 companies and seven startups, occupying 63 booths. Notable US companies such as Caterpillar, Chevron, ExxonMobil, and others will be represented. The exhibition will include zones for various sectors, including power and energy, information technology, and financial services. Additional attractions include a startup zone, a direct shopping carnival zone, and a heritage corner.
The three-day event will feature six thematic seminars covering topics such as power and energy, healthcare, information technology, and more. Industry experts and government representatives will participate in these discussions. The exhibition will be open to visitors daily from 1000 am to 800 pm.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of AmCham, which initiated the US Trade Show in Bangladesh in 1992. After a hiatus of about two and a half years, the event is making a return. The press conference was also attended by Paul G. Frost, Commercial Counsellor at the US Embassy in Dhaka.
