Dhaka:Prime Minister's Political Assistant Rashed Khan has called for the arrest of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, accusing him of instigating an arson attack on a police vehicle in Mirpur. This incident occurred amidst ongoing demonstrations by garment workers concerning wage disputes.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Rashed Khan made these remarks on Monday following a program at the Jatiya Press Club. He alleged that Dr. Shafiqur Rahman should be held accountable for the arson attack and criticized his recent statements, which Khan claimed were inciting violence and anarchy.
The demand for the Jamaat chief's arrest comes as garment workers continue their protests, blocking major roads in Gazipur, Savar, and Narayanganj, pressing for a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000. The unrest has seen vehicles set ablaze, including a police vehicle, and injuries to law enforcement officers.
Meanwhile, the government has formed a six-member minimum wage board to reassess the wage structure for garment workers, aiming to address the widespread protests in the industrial regions.
