Dhaka:In response to the ongoing unrest in the country's garment sector, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman convened a meeting to discuss the crisis.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the meeting commenced at 6 PM at the Bangladesh Secretariat, with several ministers and relevant officials in attendance. Participants included Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury, State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, the Prime Minister's adviser and PMO spokesperson Mahdi Amin, and Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal chief coordinator Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas MP.
The unrest stems from garment workers staging demonstrations and blocking roads in Dhaka and Gazipur, demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000. These actions led to significant traffic disruptions, clashes with police, and incidents of vandalism. In the capital's Mirpur area, at least 20 individuals, including four to five police officers, were injured during sporadic clashes as workers took to the streets to press their demands.
