Chattogram:The pass rate and number of GPA-5 achievers in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations under the Chattogram Education Board have shown a significant decline over the past five years. In 2022, over 80 percent of students passed the exams, but by 2026, this figure dropped to approximately 52 percent.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the pass rate for this year's HSC examinations under the Chattogram Education Board is 52.07 percent, with 2,929 students achieving a GPA-5. This marks a decrease from the previous year, where the pass rate was 52.57 percent, and 6,097 students achieved a GPA-5.

The consistent decline in both the pass rate and GPA-5 achievers has been attributed to several factors. These include a high number of students failing in a single subject, a decrease in the number of colleges with a 100 percent pass rate, and underwhelming results from various educational institutions. Over the five-year period, the pass rate fell from 80.50 percent to 52.07 percent, while the number of GPA-5 achievers decreased by about 77 percent.

The statistics were shared by Controller of Examinations Parvez Sajjad Chowdhury during the announcement of the results at the Chattogram Education Board auditorium. The event also saw the presence of Deputy Controller of Examinations Abdul Mannan and Board Secretary Professor Mohammad Zahirul Haque Swapan, among others.

Students from the districts of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachhari sit for the examinations under the Chattogram Education Board. This year, 99,688 students took the exams, with a pass rate of 47.62 percent for male students and 53.49 percent for female students.
