Dhaka:A new law focused on rooftop solar power generation is scheduled to be enacted in the forthcoming parliamentary session, as announced by Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud shared this development during a roundtable organized by New Age in the capital. He acknowledged the global energy and power challenges, emphasizing that they cannot be swiftly resolved. However, he assured that the government is working persistently to maintain a manageable energy and power supply level, prioritizing public interest.

The minister highlighted the government's resolve to address the crisis brought on by ongoing international conflicts and ensure stability in the energy sector. He noted that subsidies are being provided in crucial areas to manage the energy crisis, particularly due to the war in the Middle East, to alleviate the impact of energy shortages on the population.

Ensuring a continuous supply of electricity and gas is a fundamental responsibility of an elected government, Minister Mahmud stated, adding that the public expects normal energy provisions. He reiterated the government's commitment to sustaining a stable energy supply under any circumstances.

To further mitigate supply shortages, the government is taking steps to install additional floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs), or floating LNG terminals, in response to demand.
