Dhaka:The students who did not pass this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations will have the opportunity to retake the exams within one month, as announced by Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks at a press conference at the Secretariat, following the announcement of the HSC examination results. The re-examinations aim to ensure students do not lose an academic year and can quickly rejoin the mainstream.
The education minister also highlighted that those who either do not pass or opt out of the supplementary exams will not be overlooked. Special projects will be implemented to integrate these students into technical and vocational education, transforming them into a skilled workforce.
Addressing concerns over the evaluation of answer scripts, Milon stated that each examiner was given fewer scripts to prevent errors and lack of transparency. He acknowledged past instances where large numbers of results were altered during re-evaluations but assured that steps are being taken to address these issues.
Milon noted a slight decline in both the pass rate and the number of GPA-5 achievers this year, attributing it to systemic deficiencies in learning methodologies, textbooks, and the education system. He stressed the need for comprehensive reform.
The minister also mentioned past issues of question paper leaks, which the government is tackling decisively. Special programmes are underway to address poor performances in English and ICT, and plans are in place to merge underperforming colleges with those showing strong academic results, without risking teachers' jobs.
Further, to ensure regular classroom attendance and restore a proper educational environment, measures such as installing CCTV cameras and regular monitoring are being implemented to ensure teachers fulfill their duties across all areas.
The press conference was also attended by Mahdi Amin, the Prime Minister's Adviser on Education and Primary and Mass Education; Gias Uddin Rimon, Special Assistant for Primary and Mass Education; and other senior officials.
