Dhaka:Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican's impressive performance, taking five wickets for 53 runs, led to Bangladesh's collapse on the second day of the first Test against West Indies, with the hosts being bowled out for 272 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Bangladesh lost their last seven wickets for just 59 runs.
According to United News of Bangladesh, West Indies responded with a strong start, reaching 89 for one in 27 overs before bad light forced an early tea break. Opener John Campbell remained unbeaten on 53, securing his sixth Test fifty and third consecutive half-century, while Tagenarine Chanderpaul was not out on 21.
Campbell's innings was marked by two dropped catches, with Nayeem Hasan missing an opportunity when Campbell was on five, and Shariful Islam failing to hold a return catch when Campbell was on 22. The only West Indies wicket to fall was that of Brandon King, dismissed for 15 by Hasan Mahmud.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh began their innings at 213 for three but quickly lost momentum with the dismissal of Shadman Islam for 105, trapped lbw by Joshua Bishop. Shadman's departure at 221 sparked a batting collapse. Liton Das, who started the day on 10, finished unbeaten on 34 despite being hit on the right elbow, which resulted in Jaker Ali substituting as the wicketkeeper.
In addition to Warrican's five-for, Bishop and Shamar Joseph contributed to Bangladesh's downfall, taking two wickets each, with Joseph striking with consecutive deliveries to further weaken the hosts' innings.
