Mirpur:Bangladesh's wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das has sustained an injury to his right elbow during the first innings against the West Indies in the ongoing Test match in Mirpur.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Liton was struck on the elbow while batting, forcing him to miss his wicketkeeping duties. Backup wicketkeeper Jaker Ali Anik has stepped in to take over behind the stumps as Liton is under close observation by the team's medical staff.
Liton remained unbeaten on 34 runs amid Bangladesh's batting collapse in the first innings, but his injury raises fresh concerns for the team. This setback comes after Liton recently recovered from a hip joint injury that he sustained following a Test against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi. The previous injury ruled him out of a tri-series and cast doubt on his availability for the opening Test against the West Indies, although he was eventually declared fit to play.
Despite the latest injury, team sources have indicated that Liton is expected to bat in the second innings, although he will be unable to perform his wicketkeeping duties.
