Rajshahi:The Confucius Institute of Rajshahi University (RU) organized a programme aimed at promoting Chinese language education by distributing educational materials and scholarships to students. The event took place at the Faculty of Engineering Gallery on the university campus.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the programme featured the presence of several notable figures, including RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Faridul Islam, Pro-Vice-Chancellors Prof Abdul Alim and Prof Mamunur Rashid, Associate Prof Zhang Xi, the Chinese Director of the RU Confucius Institute, Prof Muhammad Sazzadur Rahim, the Bangladeshi Director, and Weng Yuanqi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Overseas Chinese Association in Bangladesh.
Professor Md. Abdul Matin Talukdar, Additional Director of the institute, delivered the welcome address. During the event, various educational materials such as audio-visual resources were handed over to RU School, with Principal Dr. Md. Aminul Islam receiving them.
Additionally, scholarships were awarded to 10 students who excelled in Chinese language examinations at the Institute of English and Other Languages and the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management. These scholarships will enable the recipients to pursue advanced Chinese language courses, handed over by the Vice-Chancellor and the Pro-Vice-Chancellors.
The programme's objectives included raising awareness of Chinese language learning opportunities, expanding access to educational resources, and strengthening educational and cultural exchanges between Bangladesh and China. A cultural exhibition was also part of the event, showcasing traditional Chinese arts and crafts, such as calligraphy, tea-serving practices, handicrafts, and Peking opera face painting.
