Rangpur:The Special Response Battalion (SRB)-13 has arrested the prime suspect in connection with a recruitment fraud at Kurigram Agricultural University. The suspect, Md Abdus Salam, 44, was detained in Rangpur city early this morning.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrest follows allegations that a fraudulent syndicate, led by Salam, cloned the university's website and posted fake recruitment announcements for various staff and officer positions. Approximately 100 job seekers applied for these fictitious positions.
The fraudulent group organized a sham recruitment examination at a rented community center in Rangpur and conducted fake viva voce sessions in Rajshahi. On December 3, 2024, they issued a forged order confirming the "appointment" of 42 individuals to various posts.
A victim of the scam, Md Farhadul Islam Mondal, filed a fraud case at Pirganj police station on October 27, 2026, naming Salam as the prime accused. Acting on a tip-off, a team from SRB-13's Rangpur Sadar Company raided a rented house in the Shantidhara area, leading to Salam's arrest at 4 am on Thursday.
During the operation, officials recovered a laptop used in the fraudulent activities, blank cheque leaves from various banks provided by the victims, and several documents related to the recruitment process. The arrested suspect and the seized items have been handed over to Pirganj police station.
