Rajshahi:Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has emphasized the importance of vigilance among police members to prevent the recurrence of past discrimination in both their personal and professional lives. He highlighted the necessity for police to exercise their legal authority with professionalism, efficiency, and humane policing rather than relying on misbehavior, bias, or muscle power.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks as the chief guest at the closing parade ceremony for the training of the 27th Probationary Sergeant and 43rd Cadet Sub-Inspector (SI-2006) batches at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarda, Rajshahi. During the event, he took the salute of the parade and distributed awards to trainees who excelled in various subjects.

The ceremony saw participation from 84 trainees of the 27th Probationary Sergeant batch and 162 trainees of the 43rd Cadet SI batch. The Home Minister stressed the importance of ignoring intimidation and bias to provide legal services and protection to the public, urging sincerity towards people of all classes and professions, including the helpless. He called on police members to earn public trust by being the 'people's police' and offering genuine service.

Minister Ahmed also addressed new challenges such as cybercrime, online fraud, financial fraud, drug-related crimes, human trafficking, and organized crime, urging police to tackle these with honesty, efficiency, dedication, professionalism, and a sense of duty. He mentioned that the police force is gradually recovering from the damage sustained during the fascist government's tenure.

Notable attendees at the ceremony included Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir and Principal of Bangladesh Police Academy, Sarda, Mainul Hasan, with ASP Probationer Mahbub Hossain serving as the parade commander. Senior military and civilian officials, along with local dignitaries, were present.

During the parade, probationary Sergeants Md. Omar Faruk, Mohammad Delowar Hossain, Saiful Islam, and Md. Asaduzzaman were recognized for excellence in various subjects. Among the Cadet Sub-Inspectors, Mohammad Jahangir Alam was named the best cadet, while Md. Borhanul Islam excelled in academics, Dewan Golam Rasul in field activities, and Md. Kamal Gani as the best shooter.

Sources from the Bangladesh Police Academy revealed that members of the 27th Probationary Sergeant batch will join their units after six months of basic training, while the 43rd Cadet SI batch will be posted as probationary SIs (unarmed) in different units. It was noted that 84 police sergeants and 162 sub-inspectors, initially dropped in 2007 due to 'partisan considerations,' were reinstated in March this year and participated in the closing parade.
