Chattogram:Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Administrator Dr. Shahadat Hossain today urged city residents to remain vigilant and act responsibly to ensure the success of the Prime Minister's three-month-long "Dengue Prevention and Cleanliness Campaign 2026".
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Shahadat made this call while addressing a public awareness meeting as the chief guest at the Ambagan Tarun Sangha field in Ward 13 (Pahartali). The campaign, organized by the Chattogram District Information Office, is being conducted from September 12 to December 12.
Dr. Shahadat emphasized the timeliness of the initiative and highlighted that public participation is essential alongside government efforts to prevent dengue. He stressed that keeping the city clean is a shared responsibility of all citizens, urging residents to take responsibility for their surroundings and work together to build a clean and livable Chattogram for future generations.
Warning against mosquito breeding, the administrator noted that stagnant water in homes, rooftops, balconies, flower pots, and discarded containers provides ideal breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes. He urged residents to remove accumulated water, particularly rainwater, promptly and keep their surroundings clean.
He also stressed the importance of increased vigilance through November to contain the spread of dengue. Advising people not to panic if infected, he encouraged seeking medical advice promptly and emphasized that patients showing serious warning signs, including bleeding, should be taken to the hospital without delay. The CCC is providing free NS1 antigen tests and treatment services across the city to support these efforts.
Additionally, Chattogram District Information Office Director (in-charge) Ayesha Siddika urged residents to maintain clean yards, dispose of waste at designated places, and refrain from littering in public areas, emphasizing that individual responsibility, combined with government initiatives, is crucial to reducing the risk of dengue. CCC Chief Cleaning Officer Captain Shamim Mohammad Khan, local dignitaries, and members of the Ambagan Youth Association also attended the meeting.
