Mirpur:Bad light halted play on the first day of the first Test between Bangladesh and West Indies, with Bangladesh at 207 for three and opener Shadman Islam unbeaten on 96. The interruption occurred after Towhid Hridoy was stretchered off the field.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Hridoy retired hurt on 42 off 84 balls during the third session. He initially lay down beside the crease to receive treatment from the physio due to the heat. Shortly after taking a single off Joshua Bishop, he sat down clutching his left leg below the knee and was unable to continue, leading to his removal from the field on a stretcher.

Liton Das came in to replace Hridoy and was on seven when the umpires decided to stop play after 70 overs. Hridoy, filling in for the injured Mushfiqur Rahim, had formed a partnership of 80 runs off 168 balls with Shadman before his injury.

Bangladesh reached the tea break at 177 for three, having lost only one wicket in the second session and adding 81 runs to their lunch score of 96 for two. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed early in the session for 19, after missing a sweep against Jomel Warrican. West Indies captain Roston Chase's review showed the ball would have hit middle and leg stump, leaving Bangladesh at 112 for three.

Shadman, who took 16 balls to get off the mark, achieved his 10th Test fifty in the 34th over. Earlier, West Indies pacers Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph bowled tightly with the new ball after Shanto elected to bat first. Seales dismissed Tanzid Hasan for seven in the seventh over, with a catch by Justin Greaves at second slip.

Shadman and Mominul Haque shared a 59-run partnership for the second wicket. Mominul, who surpassed 11,000 first-class runs during his innings, becoming the third Bangladeshi to do so, was out for 28 after charging Warrican and being caught at mid-off by Joseph. Bangladesh's bowling lineup included two pacers, Shariful Islam and Hasan Mahmud, along with three spinners, while Taskin Ahmed was left out of the squad.
