Dhaka:A court today sent former Law Minister Anisul Huq and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun to jail following the conclusion of their remand in a case filed over the killing of Jihad Hossain during the July Mass Uprising in 2024.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque issued the order as police presented Huq and Mamun before the court after their three-day remand in the case ended.
The case documents reveal that Jihad Hossain participated in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement rally on July 19, 2024, beneath the Shonir Akhra foot over bridge in the capital. He was shot during the event and subsequently taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where the attending physician pronounced him dead.
In response to the incident, Jihad's father, Nurul Amin Molla, filed a case on September 3, 2024, naming 85 individuals, including the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
