Dhaka:A visiting Australian clean energy delegation is actively exploring avenues for joint investment, technology transfer, and local manufacturing within Bangladesh's renewable energy sector.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) revealed at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters Unity that solar power, battery energy storage, and rooftop solar are emerging as key areas of cooperation. The BSREA President, Mostafa Al Mahmud, highlighted that Australia's experience could significantly aid Bangladesh in expanding the use of renewable energy, especially in solar power generation and the integration of renewable energy into the national grid.
The Australian delegation, currently on a four-day visit, has been engaging with various stakeholders, facilitated by the BSREA as the local coordinator and supported by the Renewable Energy Council Asia-Pacific (RECAP), Smart Energy Council, and Austrade. On the first day of the visit, the delegation met with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Chairman to discuss foreign investment opportunities and necessary policy support in the renewable energy sector.
Subsequent days involved seminars and business networking sessions on Bangladesh's clean energy market, and meetings with key government officials, including the commerce minister and the secretary of the Power Division. On the last day, the delegation participated in the 'Renewable Energy Fest 2026' at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and engaged in discussions on investment, technology transfer, and research development.
The BSREA noted that Bangladesh holds significant potential for investment in rooftop solar installations, solar-powered irrigation, and manufacturing of solar equipment. It stressed that the Australian delegation's visit has paved the way for new engagements and emphasized the importance of sustained efforts in joint investment and skills development to foster concrete partnerships.
