Chattogram:The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) is set to embark on an ambitious project to plant 10 lakh trees across the city within the next year. Dr. Shahadat Hossain, the Administrator of CCC, has directed officials to work diligently towards this goal, emphasizing the importance of the initiative for the city's beautification and greening.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Hossain issued the directive during a coordination meeting focused on the city's beautification efforts. He highlighted that approximately 200,000 trees have already been planted over the past year along key routes from the airport to Mohra and from the City Gate to the Karnaphuli area.

The initiative aligns with the Prime Minister's broader target of planting 25 crore trees over five years. Dr. Hossain noted that the CCC, with support from various social organizations, aims to contribute significantly to this national goal. The greening efforts include planting and beautification on road medians, vacant lots, parks, and open spaces from Kalurghat to the airport.

Efforts have also been made to plant nearly 10 native species, such as Jarul, Sonalu, Radhachura, Kamini, Kanchan, Hasnahena, Gandharaj, and Shiuli, along medians between Dewanhat and Barik Building. Dr. Shahadat emphasized the importance of maintaining the appearance of key locations like Jamal Khan, Prabartak Mor, Golpahar, and the Medical College area, along with restoring monuments and ensuring cleanliness across the city.

The CCC administrator pointed out that creating an attractive environment is possible even with a limited budget, provided there is sound planning and design. He also stressed the need for regular maintenance of public spaces to uphold the city's aesthetic appeal.

The meeting was attended by notable figures such as Acting Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of the CCC Mohammad Ashraful Amin, Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman, and Slum Development Officer Moinul Hossain Ali Joy, among others.
