Dhaka:Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury called for inspiring the new generation with the ideals of humanity, communal harmony, equality, and patriotism as embodied by National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. He addressed a prize-giving ceremony and cultural programme at the Dhaka divisional level of institution-based cultural competitions held to celebrate 'Nazrul Year' at the Azimpur Government Girls' School and College auditorium.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted Nazrul's humanist philosophy and non-communal spirit as a perpetual source of inspiration for young people. He emphasized that engaging with Nazrul's works could foster creativity, human values, tolerance, and patriotism among the youth. The development of healthy cultural practices was deemed crucial for building a humane and harmonious society.

Minister Chowdhury noted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's declaration of 'Nazrul Year' had invigorated the practice of Nazrul's works across the country, coinciding with the poet's 127th birth anniversary. Cultural competitions at educational institutions nationwide were part of this initiative, aimed at increasing students' interest in Nazrul's life and literary contributions.

Describing Nazrul as a remarkable talent, the minister praised his creations for their powerful reflections of love and rebellion. Nazrul's compositions, such as Shyama Sangeet alongside Islamic songs, exemplified religious harmony and non-communalism, which remain pertinent today. The minister also highlighted the importance of promoting traditional and folk cultural forms, including boat races and Baul songs.

Cultural Affairs Secretary Yasmin Begum, speaking as a special guest, stated that the competition's primary goal was to spread Nazrul's non-communal spirit and human values among students. Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Md Maniruzzaman Miah chaired the event, with several notable attendees, including Additional Divisional Commissioner Md Azmul Haque and BNP Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Ujjal.

Prizes were awarded to winning students from Dhaka Division, followed by a cultural programme to celebrate the occasion.
