Chattogram:The government has appointed BNP leader Dr. Sahadat Hossain as the full-time administrator of the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC). This decision follows a court verdict that had earlier declared him the mayor of CCC.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Local Government Division issued a notification on Sunday regarding Sahadat's appointment. He will serve as the administrator until the city corporation is officially constituted or until further notice.
Dr. Hossain will have the powers and duties of the CCC's mayor as per Section 4(3) of the Local Government (City Corporation) Amendment Act, 2026. The notification also states that he will receive a monthly honorarium and other allowances as per the rules.
Previously, Sahadat filed a case to cancel the results of the CCC election held on January 27, 2021. On October 1, 2024, a Chattogram court declared him the winner after reviewing his case. Following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury was removed as the CCC Mayor on August 19, and Divisional Commissioner Tofayel Islam was appointed as the administrator.
