Dhaka:Professor Dr. Shamima Sultana from the Bangla Department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) has been appointed as a member of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC).
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Public Administration announced her appointment through a notification issued on Sunday night, which was signed by Al-Bashirul Islam, the senior assistant secretary of its Contract and Foreign Recruitment Branch.
The notification stated that the appointment was made by the President under Article 138(1) of the Constitution. As part of her new role, Sultana is required to relinquish any other positions or employment with government, semi-government, or private organizations. Her tenure will last for five years from the date of joining or until she reaches the age of 65, whichever comes first.
Prior to this appointment, Sultana served as the chairperson of JU's Department of Bangla and is currently the vice-president of the university's Nationalist Teachers' Forum (NTF), a group aligned with the BNP. She gained national attention during the July 2024 mass uprising for removing a portrait of then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from her office.
