Dhaka:Bangladesh Bank (BB) spokesperson Arief Hossain Khan today stated that there is no risk to any type of transaction at present, assuring the public that no bank website has been hacked.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khan confirmed that none of the banks' websites had been compromised and emphasized that all types of transactions, including digital ones, are safe. He conveyed this assurance to the public through BSS.

The Bangladesh Bank website, which had been offline since Thursday due to concerns over potential cyberattacks, was restored and reopened at 800 am today. The central bank explained that the website was restored as today was a working day, allowing continuous monitoring of the site.

Precautionary measures were taken after a cybersecurity alert was issued by the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and relevant agencies. The alert followed the identification of two serious security vulnerabilities in PHP, a widely used programming language for web applications.

In a joint alert issued on October 21, the agencies warned that attackers could exploit these vulnerabilities to execute malicious code on affected servers. They advised organizations to temporarily disconnect vulnerable web applications from the internet if security updates could not be applied promptly.
