Dhaka:The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) has allocated a total of 1,413 plots on political considerations across five residential areas and development projects from 2009 to 2024. Notably, the highest number of plots, 944, were allocated in the Purbachal New Town Project.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the information was disclosed during the second meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, which took place at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. The meeting was chaired by Md Rezaul Karim Badsha.
The committee was informed of a High Court Division-issued rule, prompting the formation of a committee to examine plot allocation documents in various RAJUK projects. This committee submitted its report to the ministry to investigate potential irregularities or violations of rules in these allocations.
Reports of alleged irregularities involving 874 plots in the Purbachal New Town Project and 200 plots in the Jhilmil Residential Area have been submitted to the ministry. Consequently, activities related to these plots' files have been temporarily suspended. The committee is considering legal action after thoroughly investigating the allegations and reviewing the relevant evidence.
The meeting also covered discussions on various other topics, including the reconstruction efforts for the gravesite structures of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, with a targeted completion date by December 2026. Additionally, the ministry has sent a Development Project Proposal (DPP) for a rooftop solar project to the Planning Commission, which is expected to generate 360 megawatts of electricity.
The Public Works Department's construction and maintenance activities around the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban were reviewed, and the committee instructed officials to prioritize the maintenance and cleanliness of the parliament complex. Preparations are underway to lay the foundation stone for a new Secretariat building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on December 16.
Notable attendees of the meeting included State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Manzoor and several Members of Parliament, alongside senior ministry officials and heads of departments under the ministry.
