Bagerhat:Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir announced that the Bangladesh government has initiated efforts to modernize the police force. The initiatives aim to address shortages in vehicles, manpower, and logistics faced by the Bangladesh Police.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the IGP discussed the government's plans to enhance police mobility, acknowledging a deficit of approximately 2,500 vehicles against the approved organizational requirements. He revealed that many police vehicles are aged between eight to twenty years. To counter this, the government has embarked on a project to procure over 5,800 new vehicles.

The IGP also recognized the police force's manpower shortage, which he stated could not be resolved immediately. To gradually address the issue, he mentioned that at least 15,000 personnel will be recruited annually.

The police chief emphasized that resolving manpower shortages would alleviate logistical challenges and appealed for public cooperation to support the police rather than incite mob violence. He highlighted the necessity of building a humane and citizen-friendly police force to ensure public safety.

In his address, the IGP underscored the role of community policing in tackling social issues such as child marriage, juvenile gangs, drug abuse, and corruption. He urged local communities to assist law enforcement in identifying crime-prone areas and preventing criminal activities.

The rally, organized by the Bagerhat District Police, took place at the new police lines and was chaired by Superintendent of Police Md Jamirul Islam. Khulna Range Deputy Inspector General Md Rezaul Karim and Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Golam Md Baten attended as special guests. Following the rally, the IGP participated in a special welfare meeting with police officers and personnel at the district police's drill shed.
