Dhaka:Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), in collaboration with the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB), is preparing to initiate an Open Architectural Competition aimed at designing climate-resilient rural housing.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the competition seeks to encourage the development of resilient and affordable housing solutions in Bangladesh's climate-vulnerable regions. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed for this purpose between PKSF and IAB at PKSF Bhaban-1 in Agargaon, Dhaka. The ceremony was presided over by PKSF Managing Director Md. Fazlul Kader.

The MoU was signed by Deputy Managing Director Md. Hasan Khaled on behalf of PKSF and by Architect Dr. Masud Ur Rashid, General Secretary of IAB. The competition aims to generate affordable, safe, environmentally friendly, and practical rural housing solutions for disaster and climate-prone areas across Bangladesh.

Design proposals will consider the unique geographical and environmental features of Bangladesh's coastal areas, haor (wetland) regions, chars, floodplains, hilly areas, and the Barind region. PKSF will select the top 10 housing models from the submissions for practical application in these areas.

Under the Resilient Homestead and Livelihood Support (RHL) project, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and implemented by PKSF, more than 3,500 climate-resilient houses have already been built in seven coastal districts of Bangladesh. This new initiative aims to enhance housing conditions and bolster the resilience and adaptive capacity of marginalized communities.
