Dhaka:Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator and valiant freedom fighter Abdus Salam has announced that the corporation will no longer entertain requests from illegal roadside shops for leniency. Instead, the DSCC will file cases and seize goods directly from shops illegally set up on roads and footpaths.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Abdus Salam made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a special mosquito control and cleanliness drive organized by the DSCC. The event was part of the corporation's weekly 'Cleaning Day' and was conducted simultaneously across all 75 wards.
The DSCC administrator emphasized that illegal hawkers and makeshift shops contribute significantly to traffic congestion, improper waste disposal, and obstructions to pedestrian movement. He stressed that neither the residents of Dhaka nor the DSCC would tolerate these issues any longer, and legal actions would be taken against those violating the corporation's rules by setting up unauthorized shops.
Abdus Salam highlighted that an eviction drive would be carried out in the New Market area next week to remove illegal structures from roads and footpaths. He reiterated that no hawkers would be allowed to occupy the roads under any circumstances.
During his address, Salam underscored the importance of preventing dengue and protecting the environment, stating that cleanliness is crucial for dengue control. He advised that water should not be allowed to stagnate for more than three days. The DSCC plans to continue awareness rallies and campaigns alongside cleanliness drives to improve the environment, reduce air pollution, and ease traffic congestion.
The cleanliness drive commenced in front of the Malibagh CID Office and proceeded through Shantinagar, Kakrail, and Nayapaltan areas, concluding in Fakirapul. Along the route, Abdus Salam oversaw the removal of waste and the eviction of illegal shops. Local residents participated spontaneously in the daylong program, joining the city corporation's regular cleaning and mosquito control teams. Microphone announcements and awareness rallies were held in various wards.
