Cumilla:Police have pressed charges against four individuals, including two teenage boys, in connection with the murder of 13-year-old Ishiat Shahriar Opratim, the son of Comilla University teacher Dr. Nahida Begum.

According to United News of Bangladesh, a charge sheet was submitted to a Cumilla court on October 20, confirmed by Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md Lutfar Rahman on Thursday.

The accused have been identified as Saiful Islam Tuhin, 19, Md Siam, 19, and two other teenagers. The charge sheet indicates that Opratim was killed after being hit on the head with a bamboo stick when he resisted an attempt to snatch his mobile phone. Tuhin and the two teenagers were directly implicated in the murder, while Siam was charged with involvement in the planning.

The police investigation revealed that Tuhin had taken Opratim to a secluded, hilly forest area in Sananda, near the Lalmai Hills, on the afternoon of September 18. When the group attempted to snatch the boy's mobile phone, he resisted, leading to a struggle during which Tuhin and the teenagers struck him with a bamboo stick, resulting in his death.

Opratim, the only son of Firoz Shahriar and Nahida Begum, an associate professor in the Department of Bangla at Comilla University, was found dead in a jungle in the Kotbari area of Cumilla Sadar Dakkhin upazila on September 19. He was a Class VII student at Border Guard Public School and had left home around 330 p.m. on September 18 with his mother's iPhone to take photographs with friends but did not return.
