Tazumuddin:Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on Wednesday accused the Awami League of exploiting its political power to amass wealth during its 17 years in office, declaring that the global community is now aware of these alleged misdeeds.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Speaker made these allegations while speaking at a reception organized by the Tazumuddin upazila unit of the BNP and its affiliates at the Upazila Parishad auditorium. He specifically mentioned former state minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, claiming he owns 400 houses in London, which the British government is reportedly moving to seize following identification by the Bangladesh government.
Hafiz Uddin further alleged that Javed possesses approximately 100 houses in Dubai, 50 in the United States, and between 30 to 40 in Canada, questioning the means by which a single minister could acquire such extensive foreign properties. He suggested that these assets were amassed through the exploitation of public funds.
The Speaker also implicated former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, in owning numerous properties in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. He accused several former lawmakers of using politics as a tool for personal enrichment, compromising the country's future by misappropriating wealth from ordinary citizens.
During his address, Hafiz Uddin referenced properties allegedly purchased with illicit funds in Canada's 'Begumpara,' accusing Awami League leaders of laundering money abroad. The reception celebrated Hafiz Uddin's recent election as chairman of the Asia-Pacific Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, with Tazumuddin upazila BNP President Golam Mostafa Mintu presiding over the event and General Secretary Asad Rintu moderating.
Earlier in the day, the Speaker engaged in discussions with officials from the upazila administration and later visited several Durga Puja mandaps in Tazumuddin, where he greeted members of the Hindu community.
