Barishal:Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad, Nurul Islam Moni, emphasized the importance of evaluating the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government's performance over the last five years as a determinant for voter decision-making in the upcoming elections. He made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at the Zia Mancha Barishal Divisional Conference held at the Barishal Shilpakala Academy Auditorium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Moni advised political adversaries to refrain from frequent movements that could destabilize the government. He stressed the need for the government to have sufficient time to address its responsibilities effectively.
Moni noted that the BNP was elected through public votes and should be allowed the opportunity to rebuild the nation, especially given the current economic challenges. He criticized opposition activities, including long marches, for obstructing development efforts.
Addressing the electricity crisis, Moni mentioned that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had introduced a three-year tax exemption on imports of solar power equipment, expressing optimism that planned initiatives could resolve the power shortages within a year.
He reminded attendees of the BNP's role in ousting the previous government after 17 years of oppression and highlighted the current administration's assistance programs like Family Cards and Farmer Cards, which aim to support marginalized communities.
Moni also paid tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia for their contributions to the Liberation War and democratic movements. The conference was inaugurated by Zia Mancha General Secretary Md. Foyez Ullah Iqbal, with attendance from BNP leaders across Barishal city and various districts within the division. Former lawmaker Bilkis Akhtar Jahan Shirin and lawmaker Md. Rafiqul Islam Jamal were present as special guests.
