Barcelona:Bangladesh is actively participating in the Barcelona Textile Expo 2026, a prominent international textile trade fair in Spain. The event aims to expand Bangladesh's export market, strengthen trade ties with European buyers, and promote the country's textile and apparel products.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the three-day expo began today at Fira de Barcelona Montjuïc in Spain and will continue until October 23. With financial support from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and management by the Bangladesh Embassy in Madrid, 14 Bangladeshi companies are participating under EPB's supervision, while four others are taking part independently.
The EPB has established a stall at the expo to display and distribute export-related publications, journals, and documents. More than 300 leading manufacturers and exhibitors from 12 countries, including Bangladesh, Spain, Italy, Japan, Turkey, South Korea, India, and China, are participating in the event.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Spain Masudur Rahman inaugurated the Bangladeshi Pavilion on Wednesday. EPB Director Mohammad Wares Hossain, Bangladesh Commercial Counsellor in Spain Ruhul Kuddus, and other officials and representatives attended the inauguration ceremony. In his address, Ambassador Rahman highlighted the significant contribution of Bangladesh's readymade garment and textile industries to the national economy, particularly in terms of export earnings, employment generation, and economic growth.
Ambassador Rahman noted that Spain has surpassed Germany to become Bangladesh's largest export destination within the European Union. He emphasized Bangladesh's efforts to strengthen economic stability, enhance investor confidence, and consolidate international economic relations under the current government. He also mentioned the positive developments in sovereign credit assessments by international institutions like Moody's.
The expo aims to facilitate direct engagement among international buyers, wholesalers, designers, manufacturers, and suppliers to strengthen business networks across the global textile industry. A wide range of products, including woven and knitted fabrics, readymade garments, home textiles, yarn, and fashion accessories, are being showcased. Bangladeshi garment products have attracted interest from visiting buyers.
