Rajshahi:Advocate Mohammad Shafiqul Haque Milon, Member of Parliament for the Rajshahi-3 constituency, emphasized the significant role imams can play in promoting the welfare of the country and its people. He highlighted that beyond leading prayers and providing religious education, imams should actively promote morality, foster humanitarian values, maintain social harmony, and prevent drug abuse, terrorism, and social degradation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, MP Shafiqul Haque Milon made these remarks as the chief guest at the closing and certificate distribution ceremony of the 45-day regular imam training course for the 1,228th batch of the 2026-27 fiscal year. The event took place at the Rajshahi Imam Training Academy auditorium.

He encouraged imams to become self-reliant by applying their training alongside their religious knowledge. Imams are respected and trusted members of society, and their advice can positively impact personal lives, family relationships, and social behavior.

MP Milon noted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman initiated an allowance scheme for imams, muezzins, and khadims of mosques, expressing hope that these initiatives would enhance the professional dignity and financial security of religious leaders.

The ceremony was organized by the Imam Training Academy in Rajshahi and presided over by the academy's Deputy Director, Dr. Asem Ali. Special guests included A K M Mujahidul Islam, Director of the Divisional Office of the Islamic Foundation; Kazi Nurul Alam, Member Secretary of the Nationalist Olama Party in Rajshahi; and Masud Rana, Senior Joint Convener. The welcome address was delivered by the academy's trainer, Maulana Md. Rakibul Islam.
