Accra:Taskin Ahmed has expressed disappointment over Bangladesh's batting performance in their 99-run defeat against Zimbabwe in the opening game of the tri-nation ODI series.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bangladesh, chasing a target of 272 set by Zimbabwe, was bowled out for just 172 runs in 33.2 overs. Taskin noted that the target was achievable on a pitch favorable for batting, criticizing the team's inability to build crucial partnerships.

Taskin, who claimed 3-44 in 10 overs, was the standout bowler for Bangladesh, putting Zimbabwe in a difficult position early on. However, Zimbabwe recovered through a 150-run partnership between Craig Ervine and Brendan Taylor, posting a competitive total.

He praised Zimbabwe's ability to build partnerships under pressure and highlighted that Bangladesh must improve in this area. Taskin also emphasized the need for both the batters and bowlers to take responsibility for the defeat, viewing it as a reality check for the team.

Addressing criticism of the local coaching staff, Taskin argued that coaching effectiveness should not be judged based on nationality, stating that both local and foreign coaches have valuable contributions to make. He remarked that results, not the origin of the coaching staff, should be the focus of discussions.
