Brahmanbaria:Farmer Abu Hanif Bhuiyan has successfully cultivated hybrid bottle gourds using traditional methods without any pesticides on his 25-decimal plot in Akhaura upazila. This achievement has caught the attention of local farmers and residents, who are eager to learn from his methods.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Hanif Bhuiyan, a resident of Rajmangalpur village under Moniand union, has already earned over Taka 4,000 from selling his gourds and anticipates earning more than Taka 60,000, even after fulfilling his family's needs.

The farmer began cultivating the high-yielding hybrid bottle gourd variety about two months ago, investing around Taka 15,000 in land preparation, seed purchase, planting, fencing, and weed removal. He reported that flowers appeared on the plants 45 days after transplanting, with the gourds ready for consumption within 10 to 12 days.

Hanif Bhuiyan has been selling the gourds for Taka 50 to Taka 55 each directly from his field to local buyers and vegetable traders. Observers have noted the lush growth of gourd vines and flowers on his plot, illustrating his effective cultivation techniques.

Residents believe Hanif Bhuiyan's success demonstrates the potential for generating income through small-scale vegetable cultivation, inspiring others to consider growing bottle gourds. Akhaura Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Masud Rana highlighted the low labor requirements and high yield potential of bottle gourd cultivation, noting that many farmers in the area are finding it profitable.

Md Masud Rana also emphasized that proper crop care and determination can lead to agricultural success, citing Hanif Bhuiyan's example. The upazila agriculture office continues to support local farmers with advice and assistance tailored to their needs.
