Dhaka:Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam inaugurated a programme today to provide free eye tests and spectacles to drivers working in government offices. This initiative coincides with National Road Safety Day 2026.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the five-day programme will take place on October 18-19 and October 25-27. During this period, drivers from various ministries, divisions, and offices will receive eye examinations. The programme is a collaborative effort by the Road Transport and Highways Division and VisionSpring Bangladesh, held at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Approximately 300 drivers from 39 ministries and government offices, including the President's Office, Prime Minister's Office, and Cabinet Division, are expected to participate. Those requiring spectacles based on test results will receive them free of charge.

The event was attended by State Minister for Road Transport and Highways Division and Railways Ministry Habib Ur Rashid and Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Haque, alongside VisionSpring Bangladesh Managing Director Misha Mahjabin.

The initiative aims to underscore the significance of clear vision for road safety, contributing to safer journeys for both drivers and passengers. Identifying vision problems and providing necessary spectacles are expected to help mitigate potential road risks and enhance health awareness among drivers.
