Kushtia:The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Selim Altaf George, a former Member of Parliament for Kushtia-4. The charges involve concealing wealth information and acquiring assets beyond his known sources of income.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case was registered today at the ACC's Kushtia Integrated District Office under Sections 26(2) and 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.
The case statement accuses George of hiding details about assets worth over Taka 64.48 lakh and possessing assets valued at approximately Taka 1.02 crore beyond his disclosed income. While George declared total assets of over Taka 1.16 crore, the ACC's verification revealed that his assets amounted to around Taka 1.81 crore, indicating concealed assets worth over Taka 64.48 lakh.
The statement further details that from the 2018-19 to 2023-24 tax years, George's admissible income was over Taka 1.36 crore, whereas his total expenditure, including family expenses and taxes, exceeded Taka 57.27 lakh. The ACC reported that his total acquired assets, including expenditures, were over Taka 2.38 crore, leaving approximately Taka 1.02 crore inconsistent with his known income sources.
Following an inquiry into allegations of illegal wealth acquisition, George submitted his assets and liabilities statement on November 9, 2025. The ACC, after reviewing the statement, recommended the case, which received approval from the commission's headquarters on October 8.
