Dhaka:Bangladesh has requested further information from Saudi Arabia concerning the recent execution of two of its nationals. The issue was raised during a meeting between Foreign Ministry Secretary (East and West) Dr. Md Nazrul Islam and Saudi Ambassador Dr. Abdullah Zafer bin Abiyah at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting emphasized the enduring friendly relations between the two countries.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Saudi ambassador was not summoned specifically over the incident. During the discussions, Bangladesh sought detailed information about the circumstances of the executions, while both sides expressed confidence that this issue would not impact the strong bilateral ties.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally sent a letter to the Saudi government requesting comprehensive details about the incident. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam informed journalists that Bangladesh is seeking clarification on the offences involved, the legal proceedings, and the circumstances of the executions. She noted that further actions, including potentially arranging for the repatriation of the bodies, would be considered once the necessary information is received.

Shama reiterated the government's commitment to protecting the welfare and interests of Bangladeshi nationals abroad. She described Saudi Arabia as a significant partner for Bangladesh, highlighting the presence of over four million Bangladeshi expatriates working in the Kingdom. Saudi Arabia remains one of the largest destinations for Bangladeshi workers seeking employment overseas.
