Khulna:Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has launched a cleanliness and mosquito control initiative at the Government Majid Memorial City College hostel to combat dengue in the city.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this operation is part of a three-month nationwide cleanliness campaign initiated by the Prime Minister. Under this program, KCC has been conducting regular operations throughout the metropolitan area.

KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju inspected the campaign on Saturday morning. The drive, supported by technical assistance from the World Health Organization (WHO), extended to areas up to Nirala intersection in Ward No. 26. Volunteers focused on removing water hyacinths from the pond beside the college hostel, draining stagnant water, cleaning drains, eliminating waste, and spraying mosquito repellent.

Manju informed journalists and local dignitaries that water samples from the pond would be sent to Khulna University's laboratory for testing. The results will help evaluate water quality and determine its recreational suitability. Based on these findings, KCC plans to encourage residents to use the pond for swimming and other activities.

The operation saw the participation of KCC officials, Healthy City Forum members, approximately 50 BD Clean volunteers, local residents, community leaders, and professionals from various fields.
