Agargaon:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today ordered the suspension of a doctor who was caught smoking in his room during a surprise visit to the Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the prime minister found the doctor's room in an unhygienic condition and instructed the hospital authorities to take immediate action. His Assistant Press Secretary, KM Nazmul Haque, conveyed this during the visit.

During his afternoon inspection of the hospital, the prime minister evaluated various departments, observing the working environment of doctors and health workers, as well as the overall cleanliness of the institution. It was during this visit that he found Associate Professor Rafiqul Islam smoking in his room, which was not properly maintained.

Expressing strong displeasure over the conduct and the unhygienic environment in a critical healthcare institution like a children's hospital, the prime minister directed the hospital's Board of Management Chairman, Prof Dr AKM Azizul Haque, to take action against the doctor. Consequently, Dr. Rafiqul Islam was temporarily suspended.

The prime minister emphasized the importance of maintaining a hygienic environment and ensuring that all staff perform their duties with responsibility and care.
