Banani:Gulshan-Banani Sarbajanin Puja Foundation will present 'Jalaja', a theme centered on the significance of water as a source of life, creation, and divine power, at its Durga Puja mandap during the forthcoming six-day autumn festival at Kemal Ataturk Park in Banani.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the theme 'Jalaja', which means 'born of water', takes inspiration from both modern scientific insights into the origins of life and ancient Sanatan philosophy. It reflects Bangladesh's rich riverine landscape and deep cultural and spiritual ties with water.
The mandap will feature a design inspired by aquatic elements, incorporating architecture, engineering, traditional crafts, lighting, and decorative features to create an immersive visitor experience. Constructed with eco-friendly materials such as bamboo, cane, natural fibers, and jute, the structure will mimic wave movements with waterfalls and reflection pools, enhanced by lighting to create a serene atmosphere leading to the inner sanctum.
The organizers have emphasized that 'Jalaja' aims to transcend religious symbolism by underscoring the importance of protecting water resources and the environment amid challenges like climate change, river encroachment, and water pollution. Architect Amiti Kundu and artist-researcher Partho Pratim Saha have been responsible for planning, designing, and supervising the mandap.
The venue will be open to individuals of all faiths and backgrounds throughout the six-day festival, allowing visitors to engage with the artistic, spiritual, and environmental themes presented.
