Dinajpur:Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has transferred an ancient Vishnu idol, made of black touchstone and weighing 32 kg and 150 grams, to the Kantanagar Archaeological Museum in Kaharole upazila. This handover followed a court order and was confirmed by Dinajpur Battalion-42 BGB Commander Lt Col MM Zillur Rahman.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the idol was initially recovered during an anti-smuggling operation in the Chhatrapara area of Dinajpur Sadar upazila on August 11. One individual was detained during the operation, and the idol was found in his possession.
The detained person and the idol were subsequently handed over to Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station. However, due to inadequate preservation facilities at the station, the idol was temporarily held by BGB Battalion-42. On October 7, a court ordered the idol to be placed in the Kantanagar Archaeological Museum's custody.
Lt Col MM Zillur Rahman emphasized the importance of archaeological artifacts as vital evidence of national history and cultural identity. He highlighted BGB's commitment to preventing illegal trafficking and destruction of such artifacts, reinforcing intelligence and operations in border areas to protect national heritage and combat cross-border crimes.
