Accra:The Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has requested Tk 41.38 crore to fund the operations of 192 Urban Primary Healthcare Centres located in 12 city corporations and 23 municipalities.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the requested funds aim to cover expenses for the first nine months of the 2026-27 fiscal year, spanning from July 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027. This request was made by the Budget-1 wing of the Health Services Division in a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Finance Division.

The 192 Urban Primary Healthcare Centres were previously under the management of the Local Government Division but have now been transferred to the Health Services Division following a Cabinet Division decision. The Health Services Division plans to manage these centres through the respective civil surgeons, providing necessary primary healthcare services.

The requested allocation is intended to cover staff salaries, allowances, procurement of medicines, and medical and surgical equipment, as well as administrative expenses. Additionally, the letter seeks the creation of an institutional code for the headquarters of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the corresponding budgetary allocation needed to operate these centres.

The Health Services Division has also requested the Finance Division to ensure the necessary steps are taken to secure the allocation through an authorised process for fund release to the civil surgeons.
