Dhaka:A court has shown former lawmaker Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed as arrested in connection with an attempted murder case involving BNP activist Mushfiqur Rahman Abir. The arrest was ordered by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam after police presented Mansur to the court. Following the order, Mansur was sent back to jail.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case documents reveal that Abir was first attacked in early December 2022. He was abducted, severely beaten, and left unconscious by unidentified assailants. Abir was confined in a Hazaribagh warehouse and released only after a five lakh taka ransom was paid.

Abir faced another attack on December 8, 2022, at his Kalabagan home, where members of the now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, Jubo League, and Swechchhasebak League allegedly vandalized his residence and assaulted him until he lost consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness, Abir found himself detained at the Kalabagan Police Station.

The case was filed by Abir on August 19, 2025, naming 98 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as defendants.
