Barguna:Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni stated that power generation cannot be increased through long marches. He commented that if such methods were effective, the BNP would have been the first to organize them. He shared these observations while speaking to journalists at the Circuit House during his seven-day official visit.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nurul Islam highlighted that addressing the challenges from past power sector issues under the previous Awami League government remains a significant task. He noted that the 11-party alliance's long march program would not solve these issues as increasing power generation requires expanding capacity and resolving current production and supply problems.
He pointed out that some power plants are underperforming despite having adequate capacity. He emphasized the need to review investment, generation capacity, and the efficiency of the power supply system.
Regarding the Payra Port channel dredging project, the Chief Whip mentioned that approximately Taka 6,000 crore has been spent, yet the channel's depth remains unchanged. He called for an assessment of the project's expenditures and outcomes to ensure the proper use of public funds and accountability.
Ahead of Durga Puja, Nurul Islam urged local party leaders to follow Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's directives to allow the Hindu community to celebrate peacefully. He also stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere during the festival.
He reiterated the government's commitment to improving people's welfare and living standards, focusing on expanding technical education, creating jobs, and promoting economic development to build a skilled workforce.
